Shillomg community

De Sales Girls’ Home started in the year 2011, March 19. It is a formation house cum Hostel. It is situated in Umbir. Umbir is a village in Meghalaya state and falls under the ecclesiastical of the Archdiocese of shillong . It is a village where hundreds of families belong to Khasi tribe live in a very primitive way .Most of the village people are illiterate and their children are first generation learners. So there is no proper motivation from the side of the parents regarding the education of their children. Also parents think that educating their children is a waste or even luxury because it is a long term investment and there is no immediate return or gain .At this juncture our congregation identified this place Umbir and studied the need of the place and the people and we realized that a girls home as a felt need for the welfare of the people .There are about ten remote villages surround this umbir and the girls from this village also can be benefited from our Girls home. There are around 65 girls’ under our care. We are engaged in parish activities catering the various needs of the villagers such as family visit, catechism ect...
