Hostel “St. Francis de Sales "(community of Tura, Meghalaya)
The Congregation started a hostel (college) to offer a service to families who were in difficulty, with girls with disabilities. It is located in the village of Danakgre, Araimile, Tura (Meghalaya). It started on January 23, 1996 with 20 girls who were blind and deaf disabled. The number of girls was increasing every year. Sr. Susha and Sr. Ancy were the pioneers. The land and the building were given by the diocese by Mons. George Mamalassery, who was the bishop at that time from the request of Mother Corrada who was the Delegate Superior. The girls attend Montfort school which is located on the same campus.
Rev. Br. Thomas More started the Montfort Center for Education in 1995. It was his dream to have an integrated and inclusive educational center to meet the educational and professional needs of children with disabilities in Garo Hills, Tura. Montfortian education seeks to work for the total development of young people. They are helped to discover their God-given talents and work towards their full development to put them at the service of society. We are in collaboration with the Montfortian brothers who help us in every need of our community.
Our girls have various possibilities to develop their talents. I am very brave at singing and others are good at miming. Girls who have completed their studies and left this hostel go for further studies at the university. The age range of the hostel girls ranges from 4 to 17 years. The sisters find joy in serving for and with them, they are always present to help them in their study, games, various activities. . The girls and parents and teachers are also happy because these students perform well in all activities, including studies.
